Is CBD Safe?

CBD is being reported to help regulate mood, chronic pain and inflammation, insomnia, and a myriad of other benefits. Before you jump in, consider a few things:

  • CBD is not a cure-all and more research will provide us a better understanding of it’s benefits and any side-effects/contraindications.

  • Understand “clinical strength” is an unregulated term and there’s not enough research to indicate what an effective dose is. Use your best judgement and ask your healthcare providers for direction and support.

  • Currently CBD is most often sold as a supplement and not as a prescription. The FDA does not regulate the safety and purity of supplements. This allows companies to make bold, unproven claims.  Be a diligent, judicious consumer and take the time to look at the label and buy only from trusted sources.

  • People taking very high doses of CBD can show abnormalities in liver related blood tests, similar to those that frequently take acetaminophen. (1)

  • Talk to your doctor to make sure you’re reducing your risk with any medications or additional supplements you’re taking. People on blood thinners, thyroid meds, anti-seizure, and heart murmur meds are usually not encouraged to add CBD to their diet and lifestyle.
